How to Maintain your Blender Jar
A little over a year ago, we shared with you tips on how to clean your blender jars. Due to the many comments on that post, we've decided to give you some more tips on the best ways to maintain your Blendtec blender jars.
Clean your jar after every use.
In the blender:
- Use your Spectacula (with the Twister jar) or your Spoonula (with the FourSide and WildSide* jars) to scrape out all the delicious food you've just made.
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Press "Pulse" a few times.
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
By hand:
- Use your Spectacula (with the Twister jar) or your Spoonula (with the FourSide and WildSide jars) to scrape out all the delicious food you've just made.
- Wash in the sink with soapy water.
- Use a nonabrasive dish cloth. (Using abrasive products, such as Scotch pads and nylon brushes, can scratch the jar.)
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
In the dishwasher:
- Use your Spectacula (with the Twister jar) or your Spoonula (with the FourSide and WildSide jars) to scrape out all the delicious food you've just made.
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Press "Pulse" a few times.
- Place the jar on the top rack of your dishwasher. Do not run on the heat setting.
Note: Lemon-based detergents can etch the jars, making them look cloudy.
How other customers wash their jars:
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Select "Batters." (This cycle is great for cleaning your jar after making thicker blends, like bread doughs and batters.)
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
- Rinse your jar under warm running water.
- Fill the jar with 1 to 1½ cups water and 1 to 2 drops of soap. Secure the lid.
- Press "Pulse" a few times.
- Rinse, drain, and dry.
- Clean your jar immediately after use, don’t let food sit in it.
- Before each use, turn the blade with your hand from the bottom of the jar by spinning the drive shaft.
- If the jar hasn’t been used over an extended period of time, you may want to put warm water in it and let it sit for 15 minutes, dump it out and then turn the blade with your hand to ensure it’s not stuck.

Plastic discoloration is a possibility when blending certain items such as certain protein powders, certain spices, dry goods, etc. When regular cleaning does not remove these stains, there are a few other things that can help diminish the appearance which are listed below. Some of these tips will work better for certain types of stains, while other tips might work better for another type of stain, so if one doesn’t seem to do the trick, try out another.
Tips for removing stains from your jar:
Juice of 1 lemon, 2-3 tbsp of baking soda, and some water. Then, run to Speed 10 and scrub with non-scratch sponge.
Vinegar mixed with baking soda (and some water) will also work. Then, run to Speed 10 and scrub with non-scratch sponge.
1-2 tbsp powdered dishwasher detergent dissolved in 1-2 cups hot water, left to soak for 1 hour. Then, scrub with non-scratch sponge.
To get ‘smells’ out, just grinding up a lemon works like it does for your garbage disposal.
Put in six squirts of Bleach in the jar. Let it sit in the jar for about 5 minutes and rinse well before blending.
Lemi Shine® is a dishwasher detergent additive. Combined with your auto dish detergent, Lemi Shine® Original removes tough hard water spots, stains, and film during the main wash cycle.
Protein powder – Lemi Shine® will also help with the protein powder. Let soak in the jar for 20 min with some powdered dish washer detergent.
All of the cleaning tips for the jar are good, but I am left with a problem. I use the blender a few times daily, in other words very often. I’ve noticed that the jar slowly collects on the inside a sort of water scale that I can scrape off with my finger nail. Any tips in removing this to make the jar shiny again?
I just bought a Blendtec TotalBlender and I find that sometimes the jar sticks to the base after use. Can I lubricate the metal shaft that fits into the base with a bit of coconut oil?
Hi Marina,
Do you remember how full the jar was before you started blending? Also, our lids sit tight on the jar, and sometimes it may seem like the lid is on all the way, when it actually may not be. Be sure that the lid is pushed on all the way before blending.
I tried to make almond milk today and it all leaked and then burst from under the cover. I tried again, pressing down on the cover, but it still leaked along its sides. I thought the cover was pretty much leak-proof. Is this normal?
