Instructions
- Add coconut oil and hazelnuts to FourSide or WildSide+ jar and secure lid. Blend on a low speed for 15 seconds and then increase to a high speed for 35 seconds (until blended time reads 50 seconds).
- Stir mixture towards center of jar, then secure lid.
- Blend on a medium speed for 50 seconds. Stir, secure lid, and repeat this cycle two more times.
- Add cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar to jar and secure lid. Blend on a medium speed for 50 seconds.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-6 weeks. Bring to room temperature before serving.
To toast hazelnuts:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Spread hazelnuts on shallow baking sheet and toast in oven until skins darken, approximately 8-10 minutes. To ensure even toasting, stir the hazelnuts after 4-5 minutes in oven, then finish toasting.
- Wrap the cooled hazelnuts in a clean kitchen towel and rub towel back and forth to remove most of the hazelnut skins.
Note: If making in Twister jar, decrease ingredients by half.
We used a twister jar and got it right on the second try. We followed a recipe similar to the comments.
1. Use twister jar
2. Half all ingredients
3. Mix nuts and melted coconut oil on speed 2 for 15 seconds. The mixture will be slightly warm.
4. Slowly increase the speed to 7 (increasing every 2-3 seconds), until the end of the cycle (cycle ends at 50 seconds)
5. Add the powdered sugar and cocoa
6. Blend on speed 2 for 23 seconds – this was the perfect consistency. Then we realized we forgot an ingredient
7. Add vanilla. Blend on 2 for 15-20 seconds. It was a little thicker after this blend. The mixture will be warm (not hot).
Delicious!!!
What other nut could you use besides hazelnut? What less expensive nut would work?
If you use another nut, it won’t be "Nutella" anymore but you can make a chocolate nut butter using another nut (almonds, peanuts, etc.).
Has anyone tried other nuts? Pistachios sound like a good option for best nutrition.
yes
