How to Prep a Pineapple

How to Prep a Pineapple

Think cutting a pineapple for blending is tough? It's easier than you might think. This guide will show you the easiest ways to do it, especially if you're using a Blendtec. We'll also give you some helpful tips to make blending easier.

1. Selecting a Pineapple

Start with choosing the perfect pineapple. Look for a pineapple that has a sweet smell at the base, fresh-looking green leaves, and a golden brown color. Avoid those with moldy or dark spots. It should feel firm but give slightly to pressure.

2. Cutting the Pineapple

First, cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. This creates a stable base for the next steps.

Next, stand your pineapple up on one of the flat ends you just cut. Starting from the top, carefully slice down the sides to remove the scales or "eyes". Follow the natural curve of the pineapple, and try not to cut too deeply. You want to conserve as much of the juicy fruit as possible.

3. Sectioning the Pineapple

Once you have completely peeled your pineapple, lay it on its side again. Cut the pineapple into even discs. The thickness of the slices can depend on your preference, but around 1-inch thickness works well for blending.

After you've got your pineapple discs, cut these slices into wedges. This not only makes it easier for the blender to process but also allows for more manageable portions if you are not planning to blend the entire pineapple at once.

4. Storing Your Pineapple

If you are not planning to use your pineapple immediately, store the pieces in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You could also freeze the wedges if you prefer your blended drinks to have a frosty, slushy texture. Freezing the fruit also preserves the pineapple for longer periods.

5. Ready for Blending

Now, your pineapple pieces are ready for the blender. The best part about using a Blendtec is that there's no need to remove the pineapple's core. This powerful machine will pulverize it along with the rest of the fruit, ensuring you get the maximum nutrition and flavor from your pineapple.

By following these steps, you can make preparing a pineapple for blending a simple and straightforward process. The reward is a delicious, nutritious, tropical addition to your smoothies, juices, and other blended concoctions, thanks to your Blendtec.

    Hi Marco,
I don’t believe eating the whole pineapple is bad for you. I found this tidbit that talks more about it. We even suggest blending the core when making our Pineapple Juice recipe.

I have landed here looking on the net to see if blending the WHOLE pineapple is bad for you, and yes I happen to have a blendtech and I just rinse the pineapple, then plaec it into the machine… whole! :)
