Green Smoothies - Join the Revolution
Why Green Smoothies?
According to the Center for Disease Control, the vast majority of Americans aren't getting nearly enough fruits and vegetables in their diets. In fact, more than 75% of people eat fewer than three servings of vegetables a day--far below the recommended daily amount of 3-4 cups a day. For many people, finding out how to fit that many fruits and vegetables into their diet can be a daunting task. Green smoothies simplify healthy eating and are the antidote to the lack of disease-fighting nutrients and minerals in our diets. Here's why:
- They're fast. Green smoothies are the ultimate fast food. In less than 2 minutes, you can blend up a green smoothie that contains all the fruits and vegetables you need for the day.
- They're easy. Preparing a green smoothie is as easy as adding fruits and vegetables to your blender and pressing a button.
- They're delicious. While the thought of drinking spinach and avocado might make you cringe, believe it or not, green smoothies are a delicious treat. When combined with fruits and juice, you'll be amazed at how much they taste like any other great-tasting fruit smoothie.
Health Benefits of Green Smoothies
The health benefits of green smoothies are virtually unending, but here are some of the most compelling reasons to start incorporating them into your diet:- Boost your nutrition intake. Green smoothies provide large servings of leafy greens, including spinach, kale, chard, and lettuces. These are some of the most nutritionally dense foods you can consume. Adding 2 cups of leafy greens to your smoothies adds just 20 calories and a host of vitamins and minerals.
- Defend against cancer. Not too many things can make this claim, but the chlorophyll in leafy greens have been shown to help prevent a wide range of cancers.
- Stay fuller longer. Green smoothies are a great source of fiber, which keeps you feeling full for longer periods of time.
- Assist in weight loss. Approximately 45 million Americans diet each year in an attempt to lose weight. Green smoothies can help you lose extra pounds and maintain a healthy weight.

Hi Jackie, thank you for your comments and welcome to the Blendtec family. You do need liquid to blend ingredients in the blender. How much depends on how you want your drink to turn out. Remember it is not a juicer so you will need to have liquid to make it a juice. It is very important to load the jar from softest to hardest, liquid first. When the jar is loaded properly the blender can pull the ingredients down to the blade in the most efficient way.
If you are blending a lot of frozen items you will need more liquid then if you are blending fresh fruits or vegetables. The frozen items are what makes the drink thick. If the ingredients are too cold (too much frozen and not enough liquid) it will freeze on the side of the jar and not allow the ingredients to get to the blades of the jar. This can also cause an air pocket and you can hear the jar make a high pitch sound, because the blade is spinning but not grabbing onto anything. You can fix this very easily by adding more liquids or less frozen. If you are using frozen ingredients you may not need the ice depending on how thick you want your drink.
If you are tasting the seeds and fiber, try blending just the fruit with your liquid before adding the rest of the ingredients. This will allow an extra cycle just for them.
If you are having a problem with the machine moving around while you are blending, answer these questions. Does the machine move when there is not a jar on it? Does it move only when making a certain recipe? Does it move when there is enough liquid in the jar? Am I over filling the jar? When you are through blending the blended ingredients should not be above the markings on the jar.
Try making a recipe from the book and see if you have any problems with that. The recipes have the correct amount of liquids and non-liquid ingredients. Then try using your own recipe to match the same amount of liquids and frozen ingredients
The Blendtec does a fantastic job of blending chia and flax seeds into powder (if using exclusively) or into pieces in a smoothie. If you are wanting to do a really thick smoothie, I recommend using the Twister jar as it will get a better result than the WildSide+ or FourSide.
I love green smoothies. Thanks blendtec.
So, what can you recommend the brand of blender do we need to use in order to achieve this smoothie? I was actually looking for some answers on the net regarding the best blender, what to buy and what is its pros and cons.
