Can I Use My Blendtec Blender in Other Countries?

The Blendtec Designer Series and Total Blender Classic are made for use only in the US and Canada. I have a good friend who purchased a Blendtec Total Blender Classic several months ago. He loves it and wanted to take it with him when he moved to England so that he could continue to enjoy perfectly blended green smoothies, nut butters, and milk shakes. He asked me if he'd have any problems using his blender in England. Unfortunately, like a lot of other appliances, blenders that are built for the US market won’t work in many other countries around the world, including England. This is primarily due to differences in the power transmission systems. Power systems used around the world can be lumped into two broad categories: 120-volt and 240-volt systems. In addition to the different voltages, countries often differ in power frequency (50–60 hertz, this usually doesn't affect our blenders) and the type of plugs needed for the wall socket (there are at least 13 different types of plugs used around the world!).
The Blendtec HP3A is made for use in countries outside the US and Canada.[/caption] The motors that we use in our blenders are designed to operate at specific voltages. So, a blender built for the US market has a motor that operates correctly only when powered with 120 volts. A blender that will be used in England needs a motor that operates correctly at 240 volts, as well as a plug that fits into the electrical outlets in the country. Without replacing the motor and plug, a blender built for the US market will not function correctly in England. And, any changes made to adapt the blender to a different power transmission system will void the warranty. Various devices can convert voltage and electricity currents. For example, transformers can convert 240 volts to 120 volts and power inverters can convert 12-volt direct current (DC) to 120-volt alternating current (AC). Though these devices can be used safely with low-power appliances, the devices usually can't provide the power Blendtec blenders require or the waveforms necessary for our blender electronics to function correctly. We don't recommend using these devices with our blenders; doing so will void the warranty.
We use ol' Bertha here to provide different voltages as we test various motors.[/caption] So, while my friend’s blender works great in the US, it won’t work for him in England. The good news is that we currently ship blenders to nearly 90 countries worldwide (including England), so he is covered. Wherever you are, we probably have a blender that will work in your location!
Hi Kelli. Hi Paul.
I’ve used Blendtec while in the US and love it. Now I’m in New Zealand… where can I buy one? Does Blendtec have a supplier in New Zealand as I understand the power voltage and plug adapter can be an issue with performance for different countries should I bring along my US Blendtec, plus it’ll void the warranty, so I’m leaving it at home.
Help please :)
Jeff
We do not typically approve comments from companies that talk about their products; however, we felt that this comment contained good information for our customers. Please note, that by us publishing this comment, it does not mean we sponsor this company and its products. Your warranty will be void if you use a transformer/adapter/converter of any kind with your blender. We still recommend that you buy a Blendtec blender from a dealer or retailer for the country that you will use your blender in.

Who is/are your official distributor/s in New Zealand? Any chance for the Designer Series being made available?
Hello everyone we at 220-electronics.com have had a overwhelming amount of questions regarding using a high quality blenders outside the USA.
Here is usually what we tell our customers. Blendtec is one of the only brands we know that makes their blenders 50/60 hz. This means that technically a transformer that steps down electricity from 220 volts or 240 volts to 110 volts / 220 volts will work to use this blender. Before you get to excited please read on. It has to be the correct transformer.
However doing so will void the manufacturer warranty according to the comments above from Kelli Farley.
So if your blendtec blender is one that says it will operate on 50/60 hz then yes you can use a very high end good quality Step Down transformer. We make one that handles up to 5500 watts in our International Diamond Series brand for this purpose. The model is a DS-5500. The reason you need one so large is because the transformer should be at least 3 times the wattage power of the appliance it is being used on.
We do not recommend to buy a 110 volts Blender in the United states and take it overseas just to save a little money. Although if you purchase the correct Transformer the Blendtec Blender will work outside the USA in countries which operate on 220 volts and 50 hz. If you haven’t yet purchased a blender you are probably better off purchasing one in the country you wish to use it. This is because there is warranty support there and if anything goes wrong you can get the support you need.
However if you have already purchased one or own one and want to use it outside the United states we do carry a DS-5500 International Diamond Series transformer that will allow you to use it in countries where power is 220 volts or 240 volts 50 hz. The use of the Blendtec with the transformer will void your warranty but if the correct transformer is used it will work without issues. The above mentioned transformer has some features to insure it works without issues. The cost of such a transformer is around $200 and can be ordered with the appropriate plug for the country you wish to use it in.
