5 Health Benefits of Smoothies
There are so many health benefits of smoothies! Eat to live. That’s the way it should be. The foods we eat and how we treat our bodies significantly impact the quality of life we enjoy. Whole foods naturally have nutrients that work to make us healthy (or not healthy). Below is a list of health benefits we may experience when we eat foods containing certain nutrients, along with some Blendtec smoothie recipes that help with each benefit.
Immunity Boost – certain nutrients provide better immune protection than others. The nutrients to look for when considering an immunity boost include protein, vitamins A, C, and E, and zinc. Look for fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, and protein.
Skin Health – antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E help quench free radicals that cause damage such as signs of aging to skin. Healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids work to keep the skin strong and intact. Choose fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds to improve skin health.
Energy Boost –Foods with energy boosting nutrients include bananas, leafy greens, berries, nuts, and seeds. Energy-boosting nutrients are B vitamins, magnesium, natural sugar, fiber, and other vitamins.
Diabetes Management – choosing foods with a moderate amount of carbohydrate, fiber, protein, good fats along with other nutrients help to keep blood sugar levels under control and in a healthy range.
Cardiovascular Health – the heart is the powerhouse of the body so it’s crucial to keep it strong and healthy. Phytonutrients such as Quercetin, polyphenols, and other nutrients including folate, magnesium, fiber and healthy fats all aid in keeping the heart healthy from lowering LDL cholesterol, raising HDL cholesterol, to lowering blood pressure. Look to apples, berries, garbanzo beans, oatmeal, leafy greens, nuts and seeds to find some of these great nutrients.
I am looking to buy another bowl for my Blendtec – I have the wide mouth square?
can i order on line?
Please come up with recipes involving protein powders with assortment of flavors. Here’s what I use everyday…handful spinach and kale, banana, handful frozen blueberries, handful Punkin seeds, flax seeds and sometimes hemp seeds. Also a scoop of pinapple flavor protein. Tastes amazing!
Hi Marje,
We do have sugar as an ingredient in some recipes to use as a sweetener. This is because we know that the majority of people have sugar in their house and they don’t have to make a special trip to the store to buy another type of sweetener. However, you can always substitute stevia, coconut sugar, agave, or any other sweetener in place of the sugar.
It’s great to hear that so many raw foodists recommend Blendtec blenders and we hope you enjoy yours when you get it!
Happy Blending!
I noticed in a fruit leather recipe that you included two tablespoons of sugar! Frankly I was amazed! There are too many healthy substitutes; i.e., stevia, lo-han, coconut sugar, etc., without EVER having to use granulated sugar. America is in such deep “Doo doo” nutritionally, that as “the” finest blender in the world, you need to be using the finest ingredients for the health and welfare of the human body. I currently own a VitaMix. However, many of us raw foodists highly recommend the Blendtec, and I am seriously considering getting the top of your line for my next blender.
Hopefully, you will have a book of recipes that will speak to the purity of naturally created foods, so that all the raw food industry can vouch for the safety of all your recipes! I look forward to owning a Blentec soon!
I enjoy receiving new recipes and tips weekly. THANKS!
